Hi Keith, yes there is a set screw, however you are not required to install it with the set screw. It is recommended to prevent downward creep.  If they are installed correctly with the set pin going into the existing pipe on the top, the units themselves should hold 50W outfits.

Hi Keith. If installed correctly, it should not damage the existing rail. But without seeing the rail in-person and assessing the quality, I can't say for sure. However, I spoke with Captain Mark Henderson regarding your question. He said, "I would recommend putting some tape around the pipe before mounting to allow for more friction between surfaces and protection from the two components mating to each other when clamped down. I would probably use either Gorilla Tape or Flex Seal Tape.  One wrap should do the job.  Otherwise, it may get too thick and cause it to not fit over the pipe."
