In a career spanning 40 years, Ocean Marketing President and CEO John Thommen has worked with many of the marine industry’s leading equipment and accessories manufacturers.

In the inaugural episode of “American Made Boating”, a new podcast series hosted and produced by Fortress Anchors, John talks about the role of manufacturer’s representatives in the process of getting marine products on the shelves – and how the COVID-19 pandemic has permanently changed the way John and his team work with manufacturers, OEMs, distributors and retailers.
"In a normal year, I’ll travel 150,000 miles to support our manufacturer partners. But this year, I haven’t been in a seat on a plane since March,” said John, the 2019 recipient of the NMMA’s Alan J. Freedman Memorial Leadership Award, which recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the marine accessories industry through leadership, creativity and personal motivation.
“We’ve been making select calls by appointment only and following the CDC guidelines for face-to-face meetings, but now we are relying on MicroSoft Teams, Zoom and conference calls to stay connected, present new products and make sure products essential for safety, maintenance and repair continue to flow through the supply chain,” he added.
